Hey everyone! As I announced, eWallet sync is out and it’s going really well. For most folks it’s a simple process and is working like a charm. Of course as one would expect with the number of folks we have upgrading right now, some people are running into some problems. Fortunately, most of these are pretty easily fixed.
So if you’re one of the folks who are having some trouble, read on. I’ve got some easy fixes, and if you’re still having trouble let us know via our support lines! We’ll get you up and running.
Quick And Easy Problem Solving!
Before I go into details on various issues, let me give you the top ways we’ve helped people solve their problems so far!
- Make Sure You Run Sync on the Device:If you want to synchronize, you need to start sync on both the device AND on the desktop. A lot of times folks have hit sync on the desktop but not in eWallet on the device. We do it this way for security reasons I’ll address in a future post. You can find detailed step-by-step instructions for doing this under Help->eWallet Tutorials on the desktop or in the Help file that installs with the desktop software.
- Make Sure You’ve Installed eWallet 6.1.2 on the Desktop and Device:You need the very latest version of eWallet in both places to make sync work. The iPhone update will show up under updates in the App Store. You can download the latest desktop version of eWallet here. It’s a free upgrade if you own eWallet 6.0+ (it will auto-register when you install it) and $9.95 if you are adding it on or upgrading ( get it at the discounted price here if you already own 5.0 or less or are adding on.)
- Create a Partnership With the Phone: Before you can start synching you have to create a partnership in eWallet between your phone and the desktop version. You only have to do this the first time you sync. After that you just sync. There are a number of reasons for doing it this way, security in particular, but I’ll talk about that in a later post. For now, if you have trouble setting up the partnership, check out the step-by-step instructions in eWallet on the desktop (Help->eWallet Tutorials) or the help doc on the desktop for detailed instructions.
- Reinstall Bonjour:We’ve found that some folks need to reinstall Bonjour. You can get Bonjour here. It may ask you if you want to do a repair installation. If so, say yes!
- Delete and Re-create the Partnership: Stop any wallets from synching with the iPhone using Setup under Synchronize on the desktop. Then, still in setup, remove the phone from the list of sync locations. Now recreate the partnership with the phone.
- Close eWallet on Both Sides and Try Again: A simple one but you’d be surprised at how often this fixes things!
This may or may not solve the problems you are having, but so far we’ve found that one of these resolves most of the issues folks are having. Of course if you’re still having trouble you can always contact us. That’s what we’re here for.
Specific Questions and Problems
I called/sent an email! When will you get back to me?
We hope that no one will wait more than one business day for a reply. The response to this new release has been TREMENDOUS. We’ve got folks working non-stop here just fulfilling desktop add-on phone orders (yep – we still get a lot of orders by phone!) So if you don’t get a response right away, know that we’re plugging away and hope to get back to you as soon as we can!
If you want to speed up response/solution time, make sure to include the following info:
- Version of Windows you are running (and is it running on a Mac)
- If Vista, are you using UAC
- Are you on a commercial/work network, or a home network
- Are you using AdHoc wifi to connect
- Is your phone Jailbroken.
Why don’t my pictures and custom icons sync?
Unfortunately, eWallet hasn’t ever done image synching and iPhone is no exception. The original reason (for Windows Mobile/Palm) was sync speed and device memory. These aren’t issues with the iPhone so we are working on this for a future release.
It keeps saying the wallet doesn’t exist and asks if I want to create it!
This one is a puzzler and we’re working on it. We haven’t seen it here nor have our beta testers. We’re trying to replicate it and if you’ve seen this problem, please email us. We’d love any additional input folks have! In at least one case, trying some of the Quick and Easy steps solved the problem but I’m afraid it didn’t tell us why someone might run into it. The good news (to anyone who hasn’t seen it) is that the problem is pretty rare. The bad news is that this makes it tricky to diagnose!
UPDATE 9-10-8: Matt, one of our developers here, figured out why this happens! He is working on it as we speak! We’ll keep you updated!
Ahh! I updated but my wallets are gone!
In theory, Apple should be handling the updates in a way that this won’t happen. This is one ball that is firmly in the Apple court though. The good news is that normally this doesn’t happen. IF it does happen, try restoring your device. iTunes is supposed to be backing up even the data files when you sync to iTunes.
It can’t find my iPhone but I’m connected!
Again, for some folks the Quick and Easy steps did the trick but for a couple it didn’t. One of the most common secondary problems is a network using subnets. In simple terms, it’s like driving in the Express lane on a highway with a Local/Express split. You’re both going the same speed on the same road in the same direction but there is a wall between you. Another common problem is that the Firewall is blocking the connection. To see if this is the issue, try turning off the Firewall (temporarily) just to see if that makes any difference. (It will be good for support to know you tried this if you’re still having trouble!)
Oh – And one thing one of our posters here reminded me (Thanks M!). Although I don’t usually give ANY Firewall settings advice, he mentioned that in the Vista built-in settings there is an Exceptions tab where you can check to allow eWallet through! Might help folks with this problem!
OK! I’m going back to help with answering emails. Hopefully this will help some of the people who have run into challenges. If not, let us know!

Any ideas why I’m getting an C++ runtime error when I press the Iphone/Touch button under the Add new devices in the Syncpro setup section. I upgraded to 6.1.2 on my Vista 32bit sp1 laptop. When I try to add the iphone sync partnership it crashes ewallet with a C++ runtime error.
I got it to work on my Desktop Vista 32bit sp1 system, with the same exact firewall, antivirus, etc software. So I’m running, but would like to sync with my laptop.
Problem solved!!
To the poster above (Rodney)….do the reinstall of Bonjour as listed in step #4 above as it solved my problem of the C++ error!
I am glad to hear that the iPhone application is finally available and very excited for you guys!
However, a little remark:
I take it that said future version will also include image sync for WinMo devices? Storage space isn’t that much of an issue with us anymore either so don’t forget about us
@Kerim: We’re working on it Kerim!
@Rodney: Definitely try the “Bonjour” reinstall!
@Manish: Woo hoo! We don’t know why Bonjour is doing this but if we can find a more graceful way to handle it we’re definitely going to do a fix to help!
“Unfortunately, eWallet hasn’t ever done image synching and iPhone is no exception.”
Actually, I do know for a fact that eWallet Windows Desktop does sync images with the Pocket PC iPaq PDA. I do it all time.
I loved to put the official logo of my credit card on it, and it WOULD appear in my PocketPC iPaq.
In the big picture of the software release, this is really nit picky, but little touches like image syncing made this app stand out from the rest.
@Jeremy: There are two ways you can get the same images on your device if you are using Windows Mobile.
- Use a link instead of insert. eWallet on WinMo look in matching locations for graphics and thus, you can link on the desktop and eWallet will file sync the linked images over. So eWallet isn’t actually synching any images. It’s a clever work around that makes it easy to put the images in both places. iPhone doesn’t offer this capability so we can’t even cheat like we do on WinMo.
- File Sync syncs the ENTIRE file, and if you’ve inserted images when the entire file synchronizes over (always a one way sync) it will send the images as well. File Sync is built into active sync and is a file transfer tool. Apple doesn’t have or do this.
- If you use the built in credit card logos we offer (by choosing a standard CC type in a Credit Card template) we provide the logo. This is still true on iPhone.
In the meantime, if you’ve inserted an image into a wallet in eWallet it has never synched over with SyncPro. And if you don’t have the linked image on both sides it doesn’t show up on WinMo.
As I mentioned to Kerim, we are working on this for a future release on all platforms.
I’m in the “It keeps saying the wallet doesn’t exist and asks if I want to create it!” crowd. I’ve tried 1-6. It very reliably connects and puts the wallet on the phone. So basically I’ve got a reliable 1 way (desktop to phone) sync. A friend of mine bought eWallet right away and sees the same thing. The similarities I can think of are we are both on 8GB iPhone 3G’s. Both run Vista with UAC off.
“It keeps saying the wallet doesn’t exist and asks if I want to create it!”
I received this message when I first tried to sync and didn’t have a wallet on my iphone and had not yet chosen my sync direction. When I chose to have my PC overwrite my Iphone, it created the wallet on my iphone and this issue took care of itself.
Brad, I’ve tried having the sync direction set to sync both directions and to have the phone overwrite the pc. I could try having the pc over-write the phone, but I would think that would work since it doesn’t need to bother with finding the wallet on the phone and it already reliably replaces the wallet on the phone (i just don’t want it to, I want a sync).
I’ve done syncing and everything worked out fine, easy and very fast.
Good work!
Just one thing… While waiting for this feature to come out, I’ve had long time to “create” my big wallet, refining each graphic, adding pictures, all in the expectation of how much good looking those cards would have appeared on my iPhone.
Just now, I understand that pictures are out of the sync flow. (I visit this site daily, but you didn’t gave us this hint, before…)
Much better a partial sync now than a complete one tomorrow, but, when custom icons and pictures willl be handled by the sync process, this will be a free upgrade, I hope.
Just to relieve this little disappointment…
As a client, one expect “full” cards features working on the iPhone app.
There is still a lot of features avalaible for charged upgrades (safari/maps/contacts interaction with ewallet, etc…)
Anyway, great app, thanks!
“File Sync is built into active sync and is a file transfer tool. Apple doesn’t have or do this.”
Ah I see said the blind man. So through WiFi, it’s not simply tossing a single file to the iPhone.
To get ActiveSync-like behavior, I’d probably have to Jailbreak my phone and manually copy the *.wlt over….. which I dont’ want to do…
I would just like to endorse Marco’s comments as i also spent a good deal of last week refining the graphics of those cards in the anticipation of how they would look on ITouch. Let us kindly ask your developpers to deviate some of their ListPro- for-Iphone time into solving this issue with background pictures.
Marc,
I found a work around for the “could not find eWallet” on the iPhone. Here are the steps I took:
1. delete all wallets from the iPhone. Hit
2. remove partnership in desktop eWallet, close.
3. rename your ewallet file on the desktop.
4. open eWallet on both the iPhone and desktop.
5. create the partnership and sync
It worked me, but now I have to rename on several devices. It looks like a file management issue on the iPhone.
Big Sigh…….. Mine crashes!!!!

Marc,
Thanks for the SYNC!!!!
Works great, but here is an additional tip for those who may have trouble.
TIP:
Make sure you have a good WiFi signal.
As long as you are near your router, and you follow directions to the dot, you should not have problems.
I have synced successfully using Parallels and BootCamp.
Note: Even though my iPhone reported a full signal, I had loads of trouble when syncing from a minor distance from the WiFi router. It kept failing and the Bonjour no longer found the device.
I have my router in the second floor, while I was working on the first floor, in my office, where I have two 2.4ghz cordless phones creating some noise in the RF.
While in my office, the iPhone kept popping in and out from the WiFi.
This only happens when accessing TO the iPhone; as a side note I noticed this behavior on a previous occasion when I had SSH installed on the device, so it must be something to do with the WiFi implementation on the iPhone.
Stephen,
Thanks for the tip, but it did not work for me. Still could not find eWallet!
I can’t sync under Parallels using windows XP. I setup the partnership fine but then when it syncs eWallet keeps stating that it can’t find my iphone. I have to quit the desktop, restart it then try again. The desktop will then find the iphone, try to sync and then bombs out.
@J Powers, Did you try naming something totally different. I have been able to recreate the problem using a previously used file name, then deleting files on the iPhone, removing partnership on desktop, renaming file. Opening renamed file and starting the process over again.
Marc,
eWallet Desktop allows for remote location Sync (FTP or SFTP). Will Iliumsoft incorporate a similar sync for the iPhone?
I’m a MAC user, so using Bonjour via WiFi on a VM or Bootcamp is fine, but I usually run my eWallet via Crossover on my MAC and Bonjour services are not available.
I can sync to my iDisk (MobileMe) so I would love the iPhone to sync to iDisk as well.
Would you consider this upgrade while your MAC eWallet is churned?
Thanks,
JFA
Different Andrew here,
I even tried on a different PC, and tried using the “FixDir Permissions” in BossPref and still the “can’t find wallet” message. I would say it is definitely an issue on iPhone.
One suggestion, change the default sync setting to NOT sync on exit of the desktop. Due to the 2 step process on the iPhone, this always results in a failed sync. Either that or have the Sync Setup on the desktop ask when doing the setup for an iPhone sync.
I posted an issue on here and its not listing !!! am I going cookie
I’ll try again

@Stephen S
That solved my problem with can’t find ewallet. I had originally changed the name to previous old wallet. When I gave it a brand new name, it worked. Thank you for help!!
Great program, eWallet crew. Been with You a long time now. Everything works fine except one imprtant thing for me. Were hoping for sync possibillities for pictures. I have pictures on my iPhone (bank codes and so on), and pictures on my desktop. Non of the units transfers the pictures to the other unit. Would nice if You could tell me how to do this, or to make this possible if the function is still not available.
Now You guys will keep up the good work anyway. This was worth waiting for
Terje
Re-installing the Bonjour service did the trick for my runtime errors…..Thanks so much. I’m off and ewalleting.
Wow….so many problems from so many users! I think I am going to wait a bit longer on downloading the upgrade to my windows pc desktop and wait to buy the app for my Iphone. Hopefully you will have many of these new issues resolved in a week or two. Better to wait and be patient than to become frustrated, right?
Keep posting though…let me know when it is really ready.
“Ahh! I updated but my wallets are gone!
In theory, Apple should be handling the updates in a way that this won’t happen. This is one ball that is firmly in the Apple court though.”
No. It’s also in yours.
* Winows Vista SP1 Ultimate
* UAC disabled
* Using Ad Hoc wireless networking to connect
(and previously working for SplashID)
* Phone is NOT Jailbroken
* Firewall open for eWallet
I too was faced with my eWallet desktop seeing my iPhone, but after selecting it I got “An error occurred while asking the Apple device to provide the authorization code necessary to set up a synchronization partnership.” After a dozen or so attempts (through the course of yesterday, with reboots of both PC & iPhone, creating fresh ad hoc wireless networks, etc), I finally got it to sync (but no particular rhyme or reason).
This morning, I tried to re-sync; but it failed. Even though the desktop eWallet could still see the iPhone (evidenced by attempting to re-setup), the iPhone eWallet just sat at the screen “waiting for the desktop”. Eventually the desktop eWallet just timed out.
Very frustrating given the wait to actually get a version of the software that would sync only to spend countless hours trying to get it to do so successfully and repeatedly.
@ Ellery
May I be so bold as to suggest that youre perception may not be valid. There is very little reason for anyone having no problems to post a message to the blog so there may be hundreds of successes for each problem you have read about. I used Vista Business on a PC Notebook and an off the shelf 3G iPhone and basically had no problems after I slowed down to read the instructions.
Ken (now waiting for ListPro )
I have (with a lot of repeated attempts) got everything installed properly. At least I thought so. Problem: I can’t Sync. I have tried EVERY bit of advice in this blog and I keep getting the same error which I have pasted in below:
Unable to retrieve file ftp://UEEDJNMKFILNMLLJDCOODOENBHHBNOM:****@Joe-s-iPhone.local.:49161/JoeWallet.wlt via FTP to C:\Documents and Settings\jdrolet\Local Settings\Temp\SLDATCopy0.wlt. (The connection with the server has been reset.)
I have an iTouch and i can not get ewallet to find the iTouch when I go through the setup. The iTouch is connected to the wireless network and the pc is connected directly to the router. The firewall is off. Where do I go from here????
Is AutoPass not worked on the iPhone? I opened a card, click on the URL, and Safari pop up. But the username and password field is blank.
keep getting
Unable to access the wallet at LaLo. Please make sure your iPhone is set to sync and that your firewall is not blocking the connection.
i have reinstalled bonjour, disabled firewall, still unable to sync…
anybody fine a solution? Using Parallels Windows XP
Thanks
“Unfortunately, eWallet hasn’t ever done image synching and iPhone is no exception. The original reason (for Windows Mobile/Palm) was sync speed and device memory. These aren’t issues with the iPhone so we are working on this for a future release.”
Hmm…. then what’s the point of downloading all those icons and background image from eWallet website?
In continuing my comments above….
The iPhone eWallet screenshot in iTunes shows different background IMAGE for the card.
However, by default ALL card on the DESKTOP version have no background image, only color (red, blue, etc.).
If I put background image (such as those downloaded FROM eWallet), it doesn’t show up on the iPhone eWallet.
So kinda misleading that the eWallet screenshot in iTunes have these nice background because if I add the background image to a new card from the desktop and then sync to the iPhone, NONE will SHOW UP.
I will put a comments on iTunes of this fact so it doesn’t mislead others, especially those who are LOOKING FORWARD to have a ncie background pictures (like Visa card) as shown in iTunes.
okay solved my sync via Parallels fo those of you interested….
Under Parallels
>Devices
-Network Adapter
-Default Adapter (Select it)
Hit Sync and wala! Did not need Firewall off.
Good luck people!
Outstanding application and the synch works perfectly as advertised, very nicely done!! I used to use the old version of eWallet and List Pro on my iPaq, this is even better for the iTouch. As someone else said, now I will be waiting for List Pro!!
Hmm, found another issue:
I have a card (let’s called it CAR) that I created in the Desktop. I sync iPhone Desktop and the CAR card get copied both way. I opened eWallet iPhone, go to CAR card, added background picture and sync again. Guess what?
I have TWO cards called CAR and CAR2.
There was no content change, just added background picture.
Re: (Case 50157) FREE DESKTOP OFFER
Just wondering – i forwarded my receipt for pre-sync purchase as per your instructions .. just wondering when and how I will be receiving the free desktop version … thanks!
Ahh, thanks for answering my question about the custom icons. Flexwallet always synced icons with Windows Mobile, so I just assumed eWallet would do the same with iPhone. It’s a very small inconvenience, but it’s nice to hear this is coming!
Everything works perfectly with over 1000 entries in my file eWallet.
I’ve had some problems to see my iPhone when I try to sync the first time.I’ve solved the problem by disabling the Check Point VPN network protocol installed on my PC (secure connection to work). For doing this, I went in wireless networking and I unchecked Check Point SecuRemote.I hope that this will have helped.
Thanks Ilium, great Job!
NO SYNC FOR ME!!!!
Mac OS X (10.5.4)
Parallels (Build 5806, Latest)
Windows XP SP2
Norton NIS2008 (tried various states of Firewall Off, Listed eWallet as allowed, Listed Bonjour as Allowed etc..)
iPhone 3G (jailbroken, SSH installed but tried it with SSH on and off, still nothing)
eWallet will see the iPhone, Pair with it, get about 1/2 way through the sync (iPhone will even say “Synchronizing” with the wheel, but the all of a sudden I get the message on the Windows side: “No Apple Devices
Detected…blah blah blahmake sure your firewall is not preventing…blah lah blah”
I have tried everything on this forum and then some. I have deleted wallets from both, re-named them, even uninstalled eWallet from both the iPhone and Windows (Parallels) and reinstalled them, turned firewall off, on, Mac on, off etc…
It’s not working!!!!
No problems syncing eWallet with Vista (via Bootcamp) and Parallels (Build 5806) with Windows XP SP2. It did take some frustrating tinkering with firewall settings on each system (which regrettably I didn’t log for future reference). Initially I had the fairly common problem of the devices being detected, starting to sync, then stopping midway with the error message (‘Make sure your firewall is not preventing…’).
Mine crashes when setting up the partnership. Tried reinstalling Bonjour, still the same. XP SP2.
When I click “Add” ion the partnership setup screen my phone is displayed as the icon only with an empty name. As soon as I click it – eWallet crashes.

Those were second quarter results (“in the second three months of the year”). The iPhone 3G wasn’t released at that point.
My iPhone was finally recognized. I don’t know what I explicitly did or did not do. I followed all of the blog suggestions, but that wasn’t addressing my problem. I believe that it had to do with the Partnerships, but what is confusing about this is that it should not be reporting that the device can’t be found just because a partnership is not established. And why should I need a partnership defined for every wallet. So far I have 7 wallets and I had to go through 30 minutes of trial-and-error to get them setup. Why isn’t the partnership between the eWallet apps on the iPhone and PC and not with individual wallets? This doesn’t make any sense at all. I would appreciate it if you would re-evaluate your approach on this.
