Mobile Software in an Always Connected World

November 28, 2007 by Marc

earth_128.pngNo matter how badly some folks hate them, the terms “Web 2.0” and “Web OS” just won’t go away. For many, these are the holy grail of software development…a multi-platform single language environment that allows instant upgrades with no downloads, making software available to the customer from any connected device. For others, the terms are empty promises or overused marketing phrases that never seem to live up to expectations.

But consider this. A recent survey discovered the following:

“The survey, which polled 2,062 adults in July and October, found that 79 percent of adults — about 178 million — go online, spending an average 11 hours a week on the Internet.”
– Reuters

With numbers like these, the old argument that “not everyone has access” no longer applies. The internet is now an ever present, vital part of American society. And with the proliferation of affordable all-you-can-download data plans, the mobile world is latching onto the web like never before.

As the Senior Product Manager here at Ilium Software, I need to look at things like this and ask myself “What does this mean for us?”, “What is the future for ‘on device’ applications?”, and “How can we keep doing what we do best…helping our customers to stay organized?”

Fortunately, Ilium Software has answers to these and many more questions. We’re excited and very optimistic about the future of our market. What I’d love to hear, however, is what YOU think. What do you see in the future for Mobile Device Software? How are you using the web with your mobile device? What can we offer or do that will help you to stay organized as the world of mobile devices evolves?

ListPro 6.0?

August 21, 2007 by Marc

listpro-app-graphic300.jpgListPro 5.0 is officially out and so far the response is great. We’re really glad that so many of you like it. One tricky aspect of ListPro, however, is that the flexibility that makes it so popular, also allows each person to use the software in a completely different way. As a result, the feature request lists for ListPro are longer and more varied than for any other product we’ve ever released. Each person wants different features based on the way they use the software.

Something that many of you already know is that we place a lot of weight on the opinions of our customers. We keep careful track of what you are requesting, and when it comes time to create a new version we use those lists (made in ListPro I might add) to guide us in our development.

So, ListPro 5.0 out, you’ve given it a try, and you discovered we didn’t include the one feature you reallywanted to see. Now is your chance to chime in with “Next time you have to add this!” or”Please fix that!” or even “You’re perfect! Never change!” (Hey, we can dream can’t we!)

And finally, if you don’t feel like posting here, always feel free to email your ideas to us at support@iliumsoft.com .

ListPro 5.0 is here!

August 13, 2007 by Marc

listpro-app-graphic300.jpg It’s been a long wait for many loyal ListPro fans but ListPro 5.0 is now available. We’re very excited about this new version and we think you’re going to like what it offers. The “main event” of ListPro 5.0 is a feature that we received more requests for than any other. Pictures!

That’s right! With ListPro 5.0 you can add pictures to all your favorite lists. Link to pictures of people for your contacts list, book covers for your book collection, or maps for a list of your favorite restaurants. With a couple clicks you can easily add pictures to the notes pane of any list item.

The next big feature is the second most popular request, and that’s rich text formatting in the notes pane. Change the font, size and style or add bullets and numbering (plus the subtle, but long requested, ability to enter a TAB!) This new version completely changes the way you’ll use your lists. Plus we’ve thrown in the ability to add live links in the notes!

And of course we have a bunch of other great new features. Like HTML export! Now you can export your lists in an attractive html format file making it easy to email a list to a friend that doesn’t have ListPro (yet!) You can also export lists as XML (even selecting RSS format for those of you who would like to try using ListPro to build your RSS newsfeeds!) Throw in an updated appearance and a number of other features and fixes and we think you’ll really enjoy ListPro 5.0!

You can find out more here, or grab a copy of the new version here!

The Lost Features of eWallet

August 6, 2007 by Marc

ew_icon3.png

When you near the planned release date for a product, it isn’t uncommon to find yourself with features that work great and are very cool, but that you just don’t have time to fully implement. When this happens, getting the product out takes priority over adding this one last feature. This is precisely what happened with a “lost feature” that I’m going to tell you about today!

So read on to learn about one of the Lost Features of eWallet (and even try it out in your own copy of the software!)

eWallet 5.0.2 is out (and other news)!

May 30, 2007 by Marc

wallet120.jpgWe’ve released a tiny update to eWallet. It’s version 5.0.2 and it fixes a couple of little things that were bugging us. For 5.0.1 users, you don’t need to download this one but it doesn’t hurt. It primarily smooths out the experience for new and upgrade purchasers in the future.

ListPro 5.0 Closed Beta continues apace. So far things are looking quite good. We’ve got a few more features that have to go into it still so the release is undetermined. Sorry everyone! It will be worth the wait!

We have an update to one of our free products “in the pipe”. Can’t say which one just yet but we’ll announce it soon I hope! Thanks for all your comments on the Extreme Makeover blog post!

Finally, we have some additional cool announcements we’ll be making in the coming weeks. Can’t say much more than that yet but we’ll keep you updated!

Keep Track 2.1.4 Released

April 23, 2007 by Marc

kti.jpgJust a quick note! We’ve released a minor update to Keep Track. It doesn’t include the pile of updates we’d like to release right now, but it does fix a couple of minor things that we don’t want folks to wait for. In particular, it now supports the Motorola Q landscape display, fixes a couple of Smartphone bugs, and smooths out a couple of wrinkles in Windows Mobile synching.

So if you’d like to grab the upgrade just download a trial version from our site:

http://iliumsoft.com/site/im/kt_trial.htm

The software should automatically register if you had it installed before. Otherwise your existing unlock codes should do the trick.
