eWallet 8.5 for Android update featuring Face Unlock available

March 19, 2020 by Ken

New version supports biometric authentication

We’ve received quite a few requests (especially from Pixel 4 users) to support Android’s Face Unlock feature. So we’re very pleased to announce that eWallet® 8.5 for Android OS with Face Unlock is now available in the Google Play and Amazon app stores. The new release incorporates Android’s biometric authentication feature, which replaces the fingerprint-only feature with fingerprint, iris scan, facial recognition, or something similar, depending on the device being used. Just tap on the Face Unlock (or related) icon and you’ll get the appropriate system prompt. As always, you decide if you want to use biometric authentication, like Face Unlock, with your wallet.

Once again we had an outstanding group of beta testers for the 8.5 release, making sure that the new biometric authentication was working as intended. If you have interest in participating in a future beta, or have any questions or comments about the release, please contact us!

eWallet 8.5 for Android runs on Android OS 5.0 to 10.x including both phones and tablets. This upgrade is free for all users who already own a license of eWallet version 7 or 8 for Android. If you purchased a copy from Google Play or Amazon using their app stores, then you’ll be able to use the Update feature in the respective store to get the new version. Microsoft releases new version of Edge browser

January 15, 2020 by Ken

Microsoft Edge logo on background

Microsoft rolled out the newly designed Edge browser today. The new browser is based on the Chromium engine (the same core engine used in Google’s Chrome browser). The goals with the new browser are “delivering better compatibility for everyone, less fragmentation for web developers, and a partnership with the Chromium community to improve the Chromium engine itself.”

The new Microsoft Edge will eventually be included via Windows Update, but if you’d like to get a copy now, you can download it from Microsoft.

If you’re an eWallet® user on the PC who has used Microsoft Edge as your default browser, you may be wondering about eWallet’s AutoPass feature that inserts secure login information from eWallet into a web page. The good news is that eWallet and AutoPass have already been upgraded to support the new version of Edge. Simply follow the prompt to download the AutoPass for Microsoft Edge extension the first time you click on a link in eWallet. And if you plan to continue to use the legacy version of Edge, that’s fine too; the AutoPass extension for that version continues to work and be supported by us. And of course the AutoPass feature continues to work with the Chrome and Firefox browsers as well.

Check out the new Microsoft Edge and AutoPass extension, and let us know what you think.

eWallet 8.5.3 for Windows PC (desktop) runs on Windows 10 PCs and tablets as a desktop app, Windows 8.1 in Desktop mode, and all versions of Windows 7 (sp1+). Get all the info about eWallet for Windows PC (desktop), including access to a 30-day trial version, here on our site.

eWallet 8.5.1 for Windows PC (desktop) now available

May 15, 2019 by Ken

eWallet header logo

Just a quick note to let you know that eWallet® 8.5.1 for Windows PC is now available.

This is a minor update to address user-reported issues with eWallet 8.5 on the PC, including a situation where the password generator wasn’t always immediately updating the Notes field in some situations. That’s been fixed, and while we were making changes, we also increased the default password length used by the password generator to 14.

eWallet 8.5.1 for Windows PC (desktop) runs on Windows 10 PCs and tablets as a desktop app, Windows 8.1 in Desktop mode, and all versions of Windows 7 (sp1+). This update is free for all users who already own a license of eWallet for Windows PC (desktop), version 7 or higher; you can download or upgrade to the latest Windows PC version from our site (you do not need new registration codes). If you have version 7.5 or later with automatic updates turned on, you’ll get prompted to update to the latest version (you can press “Check for Updates” in the About screen too). Get all the info about eWallet for Windows PC (desktop), including access to a 30-day trial version, here on our site.

World Password Day 2019

May 2, 2019 by Ken

It’s World Password Day today — a day to promote better password habits. As we’ve been in the business of protecting personal and business information since 1997, we often get asked for advice on passwords, so here’s some best practices that can help:

  1. Create strong passwords or passphrases (at least 14 characters with a mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers and punctuation — it should not be something easy to guess or unaltered from a dictionary.
  2. Use a different password for each account (easy with eWallet’s built-in password generator)
  3. Use a password manager — eWallet® of course!
  4. Use multi-factor authentication with accounts that support it (and eWallet can store extra factor info too)
Password Generator in eWallet for iOS

eWallet’s built-in password generator can help you generate random, long, complicated passwords for all your accounts, and of course it stores them for you so you don’t have remember them.

eWallet’s AutoPass feature will fill in the username and password for you on most sites. And with eWallet’s built-in SyncPro engine, you can sync your digital eWallet files between your devices and computers using the cloud or a local Wi-Fi network.

eWallet is available for the Android, iPhone/iPad, Mac and Windows platforms.

eWallet 8.5 for Windows PC (desktop) now available

April 5, 2019 by Ken

eWallet header logo

We are very pleased to announce that eWallet® 8.5 for Windows PC (desktop) is now available. Before discussing the changes in the release I want to first thank everyone who took the time to write us with suggestions, tested pre-release versions, discussed different ideas, or all of the above! Over the last 22 years we’ve been lucky enough to support some very loyal and passionate users and we’re very thankful for that. As usual, most of the features in 8.5 were based on user requests.

Now on to the changes for this release:

  • Now uses Microsoft’s .NET Framework 4.7 which includes improved networking support (including TLS 1.2), improved support for high DPI monitors, performance and reliability improvements
  • Improved support for large notes, both in Flex View and Edit View
  • The card editor now offers a list of your most frequently used usernames for easier entry when creating new cards
  • Resolves an AutoPass timing issue introduced by newer versions of Firefox
  • Added AutoPass support for Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR)
  • Dropbox login page now done via the default browser for better compatibility
  • Includes an updated Dropbox library used by SyncPro®
  • Skype detection now looks for skype: scheme rather than an installed program
  • Added support for printing a selection including subcategories
  • Now provide guidance when Windows 10 Controlled folder access is turned on
  • Added configuration settings requested by business users
  • Updated Installer with additional high DPI support
  • Installer offers to install .NET 4.7.2 if .NET 4.7 or later not found
  • Several other miscellaneous fixes and enhancements

Switching to the latest Microsoft .NET framework provides a whole host of benefits, not the least of which is better networking support. The runtime engine for the framework is already included in newer versions of Windows 10 (since “Creators Update”) and is available via Windows Update on Windows 7, 8.1 and 10. If it’s not already on your PC though, eWallet’s installer will offer to download it for you.

We have quite a few users who keep really large notes in their cards and the previous cell editor just wasn’t handling large amounts of text in a robust manner. The Notes field now gets its own control which should be easier to use with large amounts of text as well as perform a lot better when scrolling.

As you can see from the list, there’s a ton of other features and fixes that went into the release as well; if you have any questions about any of them or suggestions for future changes, please contact us!
